This is a DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle prop. This blaster first appeared in Star Wars A New Hope. The basic form is designed off of a World War II German MG 34. These guns were apparently widely available in the UK where principal filming of A New Hope was done. Very lightly modified, the DLT 19 prop is not a far cry from the original machine gun.

Its construction is primarily made from PLA. The PLA parts were created using a CR-10 3D printer with the addition of a wooden dowel running down the interior of the barrel to the main body to provide structural support. As all FDM printers leave small valleys in between each layer of filament, I used a body putty and acetone slurry to paint over the entire piece and smooth over the surface for a more uniform look. I then painted the entire thing with a matte black paint followed by a light sanding and then matte clear coat to prevent damage to the black as I moved onto the final step of weathering.
